| The day cooled as we traveled to Fort Selkirk. On the trip back to Minto, a light rain began. Upon arriving at Minto, we start back up the Klondike. Leaving after 4PM, we head toward Dawson City. As we travel north we leave the rain and see some mixed sun and clouds.
Dawson City is on the confluence of the Yukon and Klondike Rivers. In 1896 gold was discovered nearby and the great Klondike gold rush began. As you approach Dawson from the south you see miles and miles of tailings from the placer mining. It's quite extraordinary the amount of effort man will go through for that shiny element. There's an excellent mining museum in town.
