We joined a Big River Enterprises trip on the Yukon River from Minto to Fort Selkirk. The Yukon flows swiftly as we head downriver. Two bald eagles watch us pass.

| The Fort Selkirk region lies at the confluence of the Pelly and Yukon Rivers. The Tlingit Chilkat people used it as a trading area. Robert Campbell established a Hudson's Bay Company trading post here in 1852. |

| Fort Selkirk was abandoned in 1950. Since 1984, the Yukon government has invested in stabilizing and protecting Fort Selkirk. Many of the buildings look as they did in 1950. The Heritage Branch and the Selkirk First Nation are working together to preserve, develop and interpret the site. |
